
2024 Wahi Kūpuna Stewardship Summit
In February 2024, Kaliʻuokapaʻakai Collective Wahi Kūpuna Stewardship Summit. Over 110 participants from 16 different sectors participated in a 2-day Summit at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum discussing wahi kūpuna stewardship knowledge and practices. Throughout the Summit, panel presentations and breakout discussion sessions were centered on: Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Accountability in Wahi Kūpuna Stewardship, Innovative Approaches to Re-envisioning Wahi Kūpuna Stewardship, Reconciliation and Caring for Iwi Kūpuna, Ancestral Systems and Living Cultures, and the Kūlana Kahuʻāina.
The purpose of the Kūlana Kahuʻāina is to provide guidance for our community of practice and those interested in joining our community of practice to engage in wahi kūpuna stewardship in ways that emphasize and ensure the importance of Hawaiian wahi kūpuna stewardship. The Kūlana Kahuʻāina will be released in 2025 and reflect manaʻo gathered during the Wahi Kūpuna Stewardship Summit.
